It is hard to believe but this year will mark 25 years since Lisa Hunszinger first walked through the doors of a Burnaby Chorus rehearsal and knew she had found her place. Barbershop music has been her passion ever since. Over the years Lisa has sung in 7 quartets, currently in one with her own pride and joy, her daughter Kristina. She has also sung in three International competing choruses, West Coast, Gateway and Lion’s Gate. Always as a Baritone! She became a certified Director in 2002, first directing River Hills Chorus and now Alberta Heartland. She was Coordinator of the Arrangers Program and serves on the Regional Education Faculty as well as being the Co-ordinator of Chapter visits for our Region. Outside of her Sweet Adeline life, Lisa has a Bachelor’s degree in education as a music specialist.
In 2012 Lisa became AHC’s Director, and has graced our chorus with her music knowledge, elegant style of directing and her kind and patient manner at every rehearsal since. After only 9 months under her direction she led our chorus to a 71 point increase at Regional Competition bringing us the honour of “Most Improved Chorus”.
Lisa has always gone above and beyond the role of the Director of our chorus in so many ways. It doesn’t matter how big or small the job is she is always willing and wanting to lend a hand. She is an encourager and a team builder and is always open to new ways of trying things and giving others opportunities to learn and grow in new roles within the chorus.
Lisa may be well recognized throughout this organization by her long, beautiful curly blonde hair but more importantly by her musical knowledge, poise, and professionalism. She truly represents what we believe “The Spirit of 26” is.
