We were a small but mighty group singing "Daisy Daisy" at the annual Canadian Derby. It looked like we might get rained on, but in true Derby tradition, the sun came out and the stands were packed. This is an annual occasion for Alberta Heartland Chorus. We have introduced the main race "The Run for the Daisies" for almost as long as we have been a chorus. After we sang, we watched the race and were thrilled with our vantage point from Centre field. Some of our members were even presented with flowers. You can see their picture in our public gallery.
Alberta Heartland Chorus is proud to announce Nancy Tiedeman and Dineke Philipsen have completed their DCP (Director Certification Program). They are now recognized by Sweet Adelines International as Certified Directors.
Completing the DCP program is a huge accomplishment. It is a series of modules covering everything from choosing music to analytical listening skills and planning a rehearsal.
Alberta Heartland was pleased and honoured to be coached by Kim Vaughn, past director of San Diego Chorus. Kim is a much sought after coach, travelling the world to spread the gospel of Barbershop.
She is one of only eight women to have both won a crown and direct a champion chorus.
Alberta Heartland Chorus came home in triumph with two medals from the 2015 Regional Competition. With a score of 559 they placed third in the midsize category and fourth overall. The audience was dazzled by the sparkly costume and the close harmony of the thirty-four members on stage. The Regional competition is an annual event for Region 26, this year held in Surrey BC. Sixteen choruses competed, four in the "open category". In the true spirit of Sweet Adelines every chorus was cheered and congratulated on their contest package. The judges' comments are closely studied and will form the basis of education and coaching until we do it all again...next year in Saskatoon!!!

Alberta Heartland Chorus held an Open House for those interested in learning about a cappella harmony. Our guests were enthusiastic and eager to share. By the end of each evening they had learned two pages of a new song, in thier designated part. The chorus welcomed them on the risers and a wonderful time was had by all.
We are always happy to see guests at our rehearsals, so if you are interested in hearing some harmony and learning more about this wonderful organization, please feel free to drop in any Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
